OUR WAY of FARMING
We live in harmony with Mother Nature, protecting and improving the social and economic conditions of our people while producing high quality coffee. DiscoverA CELEBRATION OF SUCCESS
We plan ahead and like to adopt new tools and technologies to help us protect the land, crops and animals. Alongside with the growing size of our farming operations and the sophistication of the tools utilized (drones, VANT, GPS tractors), our challenges are far more complex. Customers are more demanding, climate change is a reality and the high volatility and uncertainty we operate with put more pressure on our daily operations.
We have been able to enhance Fazenda AmaroDias biodiversity, increasing the number and diversity of the trees in the farm. The soil nutrients have carefully been monitored and built up, water runoff has been limited and so much more, all aiming to secure the long term operation of the farm. Soils are the main assets we have and we can’t afford not to improve them every day. We love to see them covered and with this we nourish the soil and help it retain moisture.
100% RENEWABLE ENERGY
Our daily work strives to minimize greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the use of non-renewable sources of energy. Instead, we use renewable energy and work on reducing the energy-intensive inputs, e.g. inorganic fertilizers.
We have recently invested in the largest Serrania’s region ground-mounted private solar plant. The site at Fazenda AmaroDias houses photovoltaic (PV) panels, generating over 81.792 kWh per year. That eliminates 37.133 kg of carbon dioxide per year, and generates renewable energy for an equivalent annual consumption of 52 average houses in Brazil.
COFFEE PROCESS
Attention to the details. That´s what drives us during the coffee processing phase. We focus on producing top ends naturals, carefully harvested when Brix and visuals are precisely checked.
Following to this, all steps and particularly the drying stage, are very important in order to avoid fermented flavors. At Fazenda AmaroDias this work is realized with a combination of terreiro drying, coffee greenhouse and with mechanical dryers, which run with sensors and automatic temperature checks. All aiming to make it well, uniformly dried.
REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
Compost. Utilization of the water from the rain. Green energy from eucalyptus, and more…
Fostering innovation, and protecting what we have in the farm is key to our long-term success. We embrace circular economy during our daily working routines. With this, we aim to keep products, equipment and infrastructure in use for longer, thus improving the productivity of these resources.
All ‘waste’ is becoming ‘food’ for next step in the farming process. We produce over 300K kg of organic compost EVERY YEAR, which we bring back to the coffee lands and help to reduce evaporation by about 75%* (* “Prevent weeds, improve soil and save water by mulching your FARM | Oregon State University Extension Service “. extension.oregonstate.edu. Archived from the original on 2015-12-11.)
In addition to this, the water from the rain originated in the coffee greenhouse in automatically collected into water troughs, which saves lots of water when farming at Fazenda AmaroDias.
Another important aspect we care is related to the soil cover, which we have utilized in the middle of the coffee lines Brachiaria ruziziensis and Crotalaria grass, both very helpful in sequestering carbon. (15-26 mt/ha/yr*). We are preparing Fazenda AmaroDias to the carbon world market that shall happen in order to keep the balance between human beings and nature.
